8000 artists carved their way into China`s most spectacular 2014 Harbin Ice and Snow Festival. They have worked extensively to prepare for the grand opening that took place this Sunday (January 5) in northern China. The winter festival features mind blowing sculptures made from massive ice blocks, illuminated with colorful LED lights.
The event started with an ice swimming competition, but things started heating up at nightfall when visitors can truly enjoy walking past the giant sculptures.
The star of the show is the replica of the Hallgrimskirkja church in Iceland. The ice building is currently the tallest sculpture in China (46 meters) and also the most entertaining one with a 240 meter long slide for visitors. People can easily recognize other works of art like the Colosseum, The Empire State Building and many beautiful castles.
So, if you are not afraid of sub-zero temperatures (-27 degrees Celsius or -17 Farenhiet) feel free to visit, the festival will stay open until March 2014.
